We all have heard about a “friend” who had trouble falling asleep but all she/he had to do was pick up a book for her “class” or “work” and she/he would fall instantly asleep. Now when the situation is reversed if the friend was reading for pleasure then they keep reading all night.

I am the same way. If I am reading just for the fun of it and the book keeps me captivated I can read for 24 hours straight. This is good and bad for different reasons of course. We are required to read certain material for classes we take and where we work. During those reading sessions I find that it is much easier if you are rested and sitting at a comfortable table or desk. If I try to read this kind of material on the couch or in bed and it doesn’t capture my attention right away or at least within the first few minutes I will be nodding off. I will not remember anything I have read and will have to start all over again.

Now if the story is one that I am looking forward to reading then I will wait until my day off because I know I will probably read it all the way to the end. I took a vacation last year and read all of the Harry Potter Books 1-6 straight through because I wanted the stories fresh in my mind to get ready for the 7th book. That may be a little obsessive however, with prices of gas and other goods the way they are going we have to find alternate ways to entertain ourselves, improve our chances of advancement at work to make more money or save money where ever we can.

Reading is usually free or very inexpensively can be delivered to your home or computer. The public library is free and most allow an almost unlimited amount of books to be checked out. So you will have to only make a trip every two or three weeks depending on you local library’s policy. While there are more and more EBooks online some are free and others are for a small fee and can be keep on your computer and read over and over again.

Here is the debate for today! Is it less expensive to go to the library, pick-up a paberback, a hardback book, books on cd or dvd and come home read it within the time allowed and return it to the library before a fine sets in OR is it more “green” to buy ebooks online, have them forever only taking up space on your computer’s hard drive or your back-up drive?
